I fight an ongoing battle against depression that I lose more often than I care to admit. I know that it's really bad when there's no music in my life. All it takes sometimes is to hear the majesty of Sass or to hear her spiritual daughter Sandra pick up the mantle demanding "What, what motherfucka .... WHAT?!" (oh my goodness, just wait for The Family Stand reunion at Central Park Summerstage !) or that oft-sampled break in Kraftwerk's "It's More Fun To Compute" or that part towards the end of DJ Spinna's remix of Shaun Escoffery's "Space Rider" which reminds me so much of Kill Bill. I love music; a lot of music seems hardwired to my soul.
I particularly love house music. One of my first purchases as an adult was of my turntables. After discovering this wonderful music, full of buoyancy, resillience and love, I just knew that the only way to become a DJ was to be a DJ. I learned by buying the 1200s, buying the tracks and mixing them. When I moved back to New York, I had little else but my turntables, my mixer and my records.

, the status of those turntables are in flux. Still, they beckon; and if not them, others. House music has the potential to bring us together and to take us higher, if even for a moment. It's something else that I do because I love it - and that love, I
think, is reflected in my skill. As long as I walk this planet, I want
to do as many things as I love as long as possible as best I can.
